The required repair on the Field Joints of Sector 5 should be performed by a combination of weld metal build-up and a complete re-machining of the Field joint bevels. This re-machining is necessary to ensure the weldability on-site of the sector taking into account the lessons learned from Korean sectors repair. Furthermore, two additional Sector Assembly Frames have been considered necessary, as a risk mitigate action, to allow to carry out Sector assembly operations on multiple Sectors in parallel, avoiding schedule delays. It is necessary that the original contractor performs the additional work because a change of contractor (i) cannot be made for technical reasons because the sectors are under manufacture and the original contractor will need to perform the additional work as part of the manufacturing phase, and (ii) would cause significant inconvenience and substantial duplication of costs for the Joint Undertaking.
